Brayden Update: 4w 2d

Brayden had a follow up spinal tap on Friday (9-24) to check on the meningitis. His white blood cell count was still higher than they would like so they decided to continue the antibiotic for a few more days and possibly do another spinal tap this week.

Yesterday they took his nose cannula (oxygen tube) out because he was doing so good on his low settings. Well as part of the NICU dance goes, 12 hours later it went back in because his respiratory rate was high. We got to see him without it and see his cute nose. It's typical for preemies to have it off and on a few times before it stays off for good, same with switching to an open crib, back and forth....they just like to keep everyone on there toes I guess!!

He has been having more Bradycardias (heart rate drops) than he has been in the last week. They tested his red blood cells and they were low so they may give him blood today. It could also be from head position and not swallowing spit, it could also mean he needs a higher dose of caffeine. We'll just have to wait and see. I am praying it doesn't mean he is getting sick, they don't think it is because he is doing so well with feedings/ temperature/ weight ect.

He now weighs 3lb 12oz!!

Kangaroo time with mom.
My little sweetheart!
I love my paci!

Heather,

Recently I have become a follower of your Blog, for the past 3 months and I must say, I am intrigued by your story. I am not much of a blogger but a few people have really caught me on here, you are one. I work in a hospital in the ER mostly, and I have shared your story with a few co-workers some Doctor's and some Nurse's. Today we began to read your latest entry and we want to extend our thoughts and prayers to you and your family. One of the Doctor's I have shared your story with is our Chief of Staff and she is also the team lead for Maternity. She is amazed how strong your little boy is and we all believe he will pull through just fine over time. Again, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thank you for sharing your most precious moments with us.

I just found your blog and I will be praying for you guys! My son Finn was 4 1/2 weeks early and his lungs weren't developed so we spent just a week in the NICU. It is so hard to see your little baby laying there with all those machines hooked up to them. It was the longest week of my life. It is amazing that these little babies can pull through these difficult times and be perfectly heathly! God can do amazing things and he is watching over your little boy!

He is doing AMAZING..T went back and forth w/the oxygen too. After awhile we/they just found that his Brady's were less and weight gain better with the oxygen. He did end up coming home on oxygen..but came home at 36weeks and the oxygen came off on his due date:-) He was transfused at about the same age as B for the same reason and I think it was the last time he was transfused!
ps..as his feeds went up he had more brady's also which is when he was put on the reflux meds and all was good! Good luck.
