The day he smiled!

My son has been through so much. My son is behind in his milestones. My son has had brain damage from his sickness. My son has been given worst case-best case senerios for development. Today none of that mattered or weighed in the back of my mind because today B smiled for the first time.

It's so true what the preemie mom poem says: "When her child says 'mama' for the first time, she will be witness to a miracle and know it." He didn't say mama but I felt like I witnessed a miracle. It was amazing!

He likes his froggie on his play mat and this morning he was happy and smiling at it! I had the biggest grin and tears in my eyes. It was a great moment.

And I think my stars were aligned. My little sweet treat for the day, my Dove, had the perfect little message for me.

My good friend, whom I've know since high school, brought her little one over for a infant play date. It's nice to have some normalcy and good conversation these days. Her older babe made us the sweetest V-day card. Thank you Caleb!

Amidst all the chaos we've been going through, today was a good day. Mani in the morning, friend date, my little man's smile, a drop by from my mom, time with the hubby. I relish in the small things these days. They make me the happiest.

:) Once you can snap a picture of that smile you need to frame it next to your Dove wrapper! (Or maybe I'm the only one chocolate-addicted enough to consider framing a wrapper of any type.)

Such sweet pictures! I know I cried the first time I saw Jarrett smile.
I think I posted on your blog before. I had a VP shunt put in at 11 months old & it is still inside me. I am almost 30 now & have a baby boy. As far as we know, it is still intact. I've never had problems with mine.
You & your sweet baby will be in my prayers!
Bonnie :)

Brayden looks so adorable in that sleeper!! It's funny that his first smile was at a frog..because Timothy's was too... His was the one on his vibrating bouncy seat... It's one of my favorite pictures! :) And I saw Tiffiney found your blog! Her sweet girl was a preemie and she is the amazing photographer that takes all of our photos...

Thanks again for your sweet emails and support! I know the Lord has BIG plans for our little men! :)

Dont ever let anyone tell you what his long term prognosis will be...b/c I'll tell you 1st hand with a preemie you just never know-they are in charge! T didnt babble or make sounds at 1yr-not even mama or dada. Shortly after he got tubes and started speech with birth to 3. after he started speech in the public school system at 3. By the end of that school year he was talking above his age and was kicked out of the program. He is now in Kindergarden and we just had his confrences, his teacher raved about him and said he is reading at expectations for the end of the year-and were only midway.
He will most likely need help along the way. But as an attentive parent if you get the help right away you will be amazes at what he can do...birth to 3 truly is amazing.
