We have been trying to get Brayden a wheelchair/Stroller for the last 5 months. We finally found one that he actually likes to sit in and that works for our family. Well I found out yesterday is was denied by my insurance because they consider it a luxury item. Now I about lost my shit when I heard this. Apparently if you have cerebral palsy and can't walk, having a stroller/chair that you actually fit in and can spend hours a day in is a luxury. You suck Blue Cross.
So after my panic, tantrum, tears, cursing, I realize we have to figure something out. We will have to pay for the chair ourselves.
The power of the blog world is amazing...my blog friend Kristen posted about doing an auction for B within hours of hearing about it. If you would like to participate and help B get his chair he really needs please visit her blog.
Part of my panic was because B needs a chair now. He is too big for his current stroller and we have trouble taking him places. I am angry our approval process took so long and delayed him getting the much needed chair even more.
I plan to reach out to helping sites that sometimes donate money to kids in need.
If you would like to help please visit Kristen's page, make a donation to our van link, or shoot me an email. I can't say thank you enough....
Here is the chair we are trying to get. Special Tomato. It's an amazing positioning stroller that fits special needs kids up to 90lbs. It's got high back support to help with B's head. It has inserts you can buy to help his scoliosis and it has a 5 point harness to keep him secure. It's light weight so we are able to bring it with us. It is comfortable so B can use it hours a day so he is upright. This will meet our needs until we get a wheelchair van and even after since it allows for bigger special needs kiddos.
